Responsibility has been at the heart of Wheat since the beginning in 2002. We want to be part of a movement for positive change in our industry - and in the world - measuring our success not only in profit but in the impact we have on people and planet. Ultimately, we want to use our business as a force for good.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

We prioritise energy-efficient and responsible solutions across our own facilities and working models, but our main climate footprint is in our supply chain. That’s why we are sharpening our focus where the greatest impact can be made. We are proud to already collaborate with manufacturers who have implemented renewable energy sources such as solar power, and who are committed to a green transition. We look forward to the positive change we can create together.

In 2025, we began our journey toward B Corp certification. As part of this process, we will soon begin mapping our supply chain, collecting data, and developing a targeted plan for how we—together with our suppliers—can optimize energy use and reduce our environmental impact.

FABRICS

We are proud to offer children's clothing, outerwear and footwear made with:

  • Organic Cotton: The majority of our organic cotton is GOTS-certified.
  • Organic Cotton Blends: To add stretch, some of our organic cotton fabrics are blended with synthetic or semi-synthetic fibers such as elastane and viscose. We adhere to a maximum limit of 5% synthetic content.
  • Recycled Polyester and Nylon: Our polyester and nylon are made from recycled materials, primarily plastic waste. The majority of this is GRS-certified.
  • Mulesing-Free Wool: Our wool comes from sheep that are not subjected to mulesing.
  • BIONIC-FINISH® ECO: Our technical outerwear and thermal wear are treated with BIONIC-FINISH® ECO, a water- and dirt-repellent finish free of perfluorinated chemicals (PFA/PFC).
  • Water-borne PU: To make textiles water-resistant, they are treated with polyurethane (PU). The PU coating on our rainwear is water-borne rather than oil-based or solvent-based. It also eliminates the use of VOC's in the drying process.
  • Cottonseed Oil: As an alternative to PU outerwear made from polyester or nylon, we offer a shell jacket made from organic cotton coated with cottonseed oil, which is naturally water-resistant.
  • Rubber: We prioritize natural rubber and recycled TR rubber in our footwear, where possible.
  • Leather: We use leather and suede from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, which are committed to responsible leather production.
  • We comply with the REACH regulation regarding the use of chemicals.

CERTIFICATIONS

We are certified by the following standards:

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): GOTS guarantees organic textiles that meet high environmental and social criteria—from raw material harvest to production and working conditions.
  • GRS (Global Recycled Standard): GRS verifies and tracks recycled raw materials through the supply chain. It also requires specific standards for chemical usage and addresses social and environmental conditions in the production of products.
  • Oeko-Tex® Standard 100: Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 ensures high product safety and textiles that are tested free of harmful substances.

CHARITY

As a member of the Red Cross Club 100, Wheat's founder, Charlotte Galsgaard, has led fundraisers for war-affected individuals in Ukraine and refugees in Serbia. Other initiatives Wheat has supported/support include:

GOVERNANCE

We believe that responsible governance is essential to running a healthy and long-term business—where value is measured not only in profit, but also in people and the planet. Our ambition is to be a company rooted in transparency, accountability, and a strong ethical compass—both internally and across our value chain.

Leadership Structure
Wheat is a family-founded company and remains partially family-owned. It was established in 2002 by Charlotte and Peter Galsgaard, who are still actively involved in the management alongside CEO Thomas Frederiksen, among others. Our leadership team combines decades of industry experience with a deeply value-driven approach.

Ethics and Accountability
We have a clear policy for responsible business conduct, covering everything from anti-corruption and data security to respect for human and labor rights across our global supply chain. Our decision-making processes are grounded in respect for people and the environment, transparency, and legal compliance.

ESG and B Corp
As part of our journey toward B Corp certification, we are working systematically with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). Our current focus is on mapping our supply chain and collecting data to strengthen our long-term strategic efforts.

Transparency
We are working to enhance our reporting and documentation so that stakeholders—from customers to partners—can follow our progress. Our ambition is to become a role model for responsible governance in the children’s fashion industry.

We are guided by:

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

We actively strive to make Wheat a place where everyone feels safe, included and valued—regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or any other characteristic. We have zero tolerance for any form of discrimination and a clearly defined process for handling and resolving potential incidents, as well as for submitting complaints. The aim is a workplace where everyone is aware of their rights and empowered to execute them (power to the people!)

We also work continuously to ensure that Wheat is a workplace with a varied demographic composition, and where background is never a barrier to employment or career opportunities. The majority of our employees are women – including in leadership positions – and we collaborate with the Municipality of Gentofte on an integration programme that helps long-term unemployed individuals return to work under flexible conditions.
